Hypnosis Training
An Intensive Course in the Art of Hypnosis With Master Hypnotist John Plester
- Do you want to learn hypnosis the way Paul McKenna and Richard Bandler taught me?
- Do you want to learn how to do it and practice it to achieve what you want?
- Do you want to learn in one short course what most hypnotherapy courses take ten months to teach?
If the answer is YES to these questions then read on.
Maybe you want to learn hypnosis for self development, maybe you want to learn it to compliment your therapy skills, or maybe you just want to find out more because you are curious about this fascinating subject?
I have trained hundreds of therapists over the years in the art of hypnosis and have been honoured to have assisted the most famous hypnotists in the world, Dr Richard Bandler and Paul McKenna, with their seminars and stage shows.
I have also been personally hypnotised by both of these masters in addition to others such as Gil Boyne. I have also had the fortune to enjoy close up the hypnotic delights of Derren Brown as my guest at a dinner party to mark the opening of my first therapy centre.
A lot of people have asked me over the years, can you teach me hypnosis without having to do a long and expensive hypnotherapy diploma, for the first time the answer to this question is YES.
Modern hypnosis is subtle, both in how it is used covertly in conversation to influence and how states can be altered in such a way as to enable you to programme both yours and others minds to achieve personal excellence.
"Hypnosis is a condition of profound relaxation which you allow yourself to enter, during which time there is an altered state of conscious awareness"
Hypnosis is scientifically proven to work in two ways:
- The process alters the subject's state to make them feel more relaxed which is conducive to learning. This has been proven with brain scanning imagery.
- Visualisation in a relaxed state supports the imagination to rehearse mentally, goals and behaviours that support peak performance. Hence this is widely used both in sport and business for this very purpose.
Old fashioned hypnosis as pedalled by stage hypnotists and men with swinging watches can also work effectively using the placebo effect. If someone believes in something so much then anything can be achieved.
However the likes of Paul McKenna and Derren Brown have been very effective in recent years in exposing charlatans for what they are and bringing hypnosis to a modern and more educated audience.

Do You Want to Become a Hypnotherapist Like Paul McKenna?
Within the field of hypnotherapy, there are a range of training courses designed to teach you the core skills to follow this career path. In general, hypnotherapists will either follow an analytical style using regression techniques to uncover significant events to reprocess or a behavioural style using NLP and other pro-active methods to re-programme the mind to achieve new goals. Paul McKenna is firmly of the second school of thought utilising NLP and TFT as his principle therapeutic methods within a hypnotic programming framework.
How do I become a hypnotherapist like Paul McKenna?
In answer to this question, you must first ask yourself whether you need to be a hypnotherapist in order to work in a similar way to Paul McKenna?
The answer to this question is not necessarily. Interestingly, Paul McKenna doesn't have a diploma in hypnotherapy yet he is probably the most successful hypnotherapist ever. Anyone who reads his best selling books will know that he promotes himself more as a mind coach using the most powerful psychological techniques (NLP & TFT) in conjunction with 'mind programming'.
I have trained a range of people over many years in hypnosis, the most successful are already doing what they intend to use hypnosis in before they even learn hypnosis. In other words, they want to learn modern hypnosis to use subtly within their therapy/ coaching model.
For example, as a coach you could work with goal visualisation using hypnosis skills, be completely professionally insured and be as effective as any hypnotherapist in the same way Paul McKenna does. If this is an approach you are interested in then refer to my NLP Coach programme for more information on how to work in a similar way to Paul McKenna without going the hypnotherapy route.
However if you still want to follow the hypnotherapy career route, then the next question to ask is how do I avoid the pitfalls that so many unsuccessful hypnotherapists fall into?
Most hypnotherapists who train to embark on this as a career in its own right fail for the following reasons:
- They don't have an established network to generate clients, in other words they are not doing anything already.
- They lack the business skills to develop and promote a business and think hypnotherapy is an easy option. They believe they will get their diploma, get their cards printed and the world of troubled souls will flock to them.
- They think that a diploma is enough training to be successful in a field. Irrespective of the debate in the media about the value of qualifications such as diplomas, it is still nowhere near enough to practice professionally.
So, if you are confident that you will not fall into these traps, then you I would recommend you consider the following 5 tips to making the right decision for you:
- Understand your motives for becoming a hypnotherapist – it is important that you genuinely want to help others as opposed to being lured by the pseudo colleges that tout the financial benefits of a career.
- Think about how you will market yourself and what interests you. If you wanted to work within the NHS, you would be advised to do CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) training as a good foundation for working therapeutically.
- If you are academically smart, consider a Psychology degree or doctorate as the foundation of a career.
- If you are more practical rather than academic and already have a career or potential market then consider becoming a NLP Coach in your chosen field with the additional hypnosis training that I offer.
- Whatever you do it is always advisable to dip your toes in the water first by doing an introductory hypnosis course such as this or a NLP Practitioner before committing financially to a longer term course.
If you are still absolutely sure you want to become a hypnotherapist like Paul McKenna, then I would recommend the following training steps:
- Hypnotherapy Diploma – This is a key foundation qualification to gain the qualification to practice. It is important that it has a good grounding in counselling and psychotherapy and covers both styles of hypnotherapy so you can be sure what interests you most and can also work in an integrative way. I no longer run these basic courses myself, however I would recommend the following established providers that meet the above criteria of a good quality hypnotherapy course:
Chrysalis – nationwide training but also held locally twice a year at the University of East Anglia, excellent value with fully accredited courses from only £1325: www.chrysaliscourses.co.uk
Contemporary College of Therapeutic Studies – well established college running courses twice a year at the Birkbeck University of London: www.contemporarycollege.com - NLP Therapist Practitioner – This training provides the key NLP skills used by Paul McKenna applied in a therapeutic context. This training works well when studied in conjunction with your hypnotherapy diploma as it provides one to one tuition alongside classroom lectures. NLP Boot Camp is included in this programme.
- Hypnosis Boot Camp or One to One Programme – This training will teach you the methods as taught by Paul McKenna and Dr Richard Bandler to support and enhance your hypnotherapy training.
- TFT Boot Camp or TFT Practitioner – This training provides the TFT skills used by Paul McKenna to follow his therapy model. Once again this training can be taken whilst doing your one year diploma course, so you have leading edge skills to be effective on graduation.
If you follow all of the above steps, you will have invested close to £4000 which would give you a thorough grounding to be truly ready to embark on a successful career as a hypnotherapist just like Paul McKenna.
Once you have embarked on this path, then you can continue your therapy development by doing the NLP Master Therapist programme that uniquely develops your NLP therapy skills whilst providing invaluable supervision.
